On 3rd July 1917 William Goss Hicks died in the Green Fields of France during World War One leaving behind his Fiancee Jessie Ellman. She was 20.

In July 2011 94 years after his death artist Jane Churchill began a journey to find what traces of their love remained. At Kaleidoscope gallery she created/curated an installation Surviving Objects [All that Remains] - inspired by Jessie’s artworks-that captured the story of their relationship.

Exploring and blurring the boundary between museum and created artefacts, artworks and found objects which also linked to and triggered community memories from the first world war- she began to tell the tale of their love and loss.
